Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone visits Del Norte County Criminal History, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use the website, you accept the practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained so we can respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server automatically receives basic technical details about the visit:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic patterns, including popular pages and exit points. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some website functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
  • Sending your search requests to the right partner service
  • Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
  • Tracking down and fixing technical issues
  • Showing ads that may line up with your interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Del Norte County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records maintained by the Del Norte County Sheriff, Superior Court of California, California Department of Justice, and California Megan's Law Website. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not turned into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history profiles.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Their own privacy policies, retention periods, and disclosure practices apply to anything submitted through a tool. Read the provider's policy before running a query because we do not control those practices.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Del Norte County Sheriff, Superior Court, California agencies, legal resources, or outside search tools. Once you leave this website, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and tailor ads. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be disclosed to:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards protect collected data. No internet system is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, Civil Code section 1798.100 et seq. Public access to Del Norte County government records is separately governed by the California Public Records Act, Government Code section 7920.000 et seq., while state criminal-history dissemination is restricted by Penal Code sections 11105 and 13300. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
